Plantin - Serving Graphic Professionals

Plantin focuses on professionals in the graphics market. We conduct our business with total transparency as a willing partner offering a wide range of machines, consumables and services for all their prepress, press and postpress needs. We categorise these graphics professionals into three segments: commercial print, packaging print and publication print.

Commercial print is an area where although the Internet and tablets are currently eating into the print business, it is also generating new business at the same time. We prefer to call these graphics companies ‘communication specialists’, rather than printers. Offset sits well alongside digital printing, with solutions such as our Hybrid Print 2.0.

Packaging print: a computer will never put cornflakes and milk on the breakfast table. Instead they will always come from an attractive cereal pack and a nicely labelled bottle. Shelf attraction – and hence creativity in print – remain an absolutely necessity here. Security print on packaging for branded products is also gaining importance in the fight against counterfeiting. This is an area where we are ready to work with our customers on developing specific applications.

The wide variety of products manufactured by folding carton specialists ranges from simple folding cartons to cardboard with special surface finishing. Unique end-products, a high degree of manufacturing expertise and the use of particular special applications are important distinguishing characteristics for packaging printers in the food, confectionery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and tobacco markets.

Publication print: this is the market for newspapers and magazines where print runs are constantly becoming shorter, thereby providing more opportunities for sheet-fed offset and high-quality products. Plantin/Tetterode are not involved in the newspaper business as much as we used to be, but naturally we keep totally up to speed with developments through our partner Heidelberg. A combination of short setup times and the whole process taken to extremes by Prinect, Heidelberg’s printing workflow system, plus an appropriate Management Information System (MIS), all make an essential contribution to the profitability of printing.
